Skiing in Courchevel
This wide-known French resort, which offers various holiday opportunities all year round, opens its ski season on the 4th of December 2005 and closes on 24th of April 2006. Courchevel is part of the enormous ski complex of the Three Valleys (which is the largest in the world). In the Courchevel ski-area there are 117 ski run comprising all colours (levels of difficulty) with a total length of 150 km. For the convenience of the tourists there are 63 lifts. The 562 snow-cannons guarantee that you will be able to ski regardless of the weather conditions. The resort offers seven types of itineraries, including free skiing and family skiing. There are connections with outer ski runs for people with flair for athletic feats. The advanced skiers among you will also be delighted to find 5 black pistes for extreme skiing with an average incline of 62o -"Les Couloirs de la Saulire", "Les Noirs Du Praz", "La M", "La Chanrossa", and "L'Epaule de la Vizelle".
There are special discounts for spring skiing from 17th to 24th of April.
This year the novelties are easy-to-use hands-free ski pass system and the extension of the Practice Beginner Zone (ZEN). Plus, a new 16-person lift has been installed. ARB (Avalanche Rescue Beacon) can be found at the bottom of the Suisses chairlift.
In Courchevel people of absolutely all ages can practice their favourite sport - for the over 75 it is free; and the ski schools start from the age of 3. 700 ski teachers are available and what is more - they speak 25 languages, so you can be sure that your child will learn well the basics.
You don't need to bother and bring all of your equipment - there are 5 chains of stores that offer ski rental services.
Snowboarders have been taken care of with special care - there is a one hectare territory equipped with facilities for trick-performing (Le Plantrey). The dunes of Les Verdons and the hoops at Biolley are for the advanced snowboarders - plenty of opportunities to jump, test your abilities and raise your adrenaline.
For the cross-country skiers there are 67 km of ski trails.
But skiing is not all the pleasure you can get at Courchevel. For the evenings there are a wide varieties of cultural events you can choose from: the thirteenth edition of "Femme en Or", Pyrotechnical Art International Festival, "Les Musicimes" (concerts of Chostakovich and the Russian classics), Mery Christmas Week and others.
Between the 25th of March and 1st of April 2006 Ski French Championships will be held at Courchevel.
