Saint Sorlin d’Arves, a quaint village, is situated at the foot of the Croix de Fer pass, opposite the Aiguilles d’Arves and the Etendard massif. It is a typical mountain resort that has managed to keep its local craftsmanship with animal rearing and agriculture. Just 20 kilometres away from Saint-Jean de Maurienne, it looks a little bit rustic and isolated, but offers effective links to its neighbouring resorts. The treasures of the resort are the 17th century Baroque church, the Savoyard farm houses where to watch Beaufort cheese being
made, and the beautiful shops.
The resort enjoys very good snow conditions - exceptional sunshine and enough snowfall for the practice of various skiing and snow activities. Saint Sorlin d’Arves’s own 120 km ski area is now fully linked into the huge Les Sybelles circuit and offers 310 km of piste served by 75 lifts above the villages of La Toussuire, Les Bottières, Le Corbier, Saint Colomban des Villards and Saint Jean d’Arves. The skiing at Le Sybelles is suitable for all standards and snowboarders have two terrain parks.
For beginners there are nursery slope and a couple of runs in La Balme and La Chal. Saint Sorlin has good short and tranquil red and blue runs in the La Balme area for intermediates. The best pistes are found in Les Perrons. The slopes are long and give you the feeling of escape. The resort is predominantly intermediate, however the off-piste in Les Perrons will keep the advanced skiers occupied.
Eating out in St Sorlin d’Arves is cheap and cheerful and it offers a couple of bars with live music. Les petits Montagnards center is open for children of all ages. They can find a number of indoor and oudoor activities from skiing lessons to trapper workshops. All the staff are qualified and experienced. The center is an excellent place to take your children for a fun day out.
