Situated in the heart of the Alps, the village of Praz sur Arly (altitude 1036m and population 1000) is one of the smaller ski resorts in France. It’s well preserved and fine example of a traditional village in this beautiful region. The area enjoys an excellent climate and snow cover due to the neighbourhood of Mont Blanc. Praz sur Arly is in immediate proximity of Megeve and a system of lifts links it to the Megeve ski area. The prices here are well below those of Megeve. Praz sur Arly is not as pretty as its neighbour, but those who go
there enjoy a good selection of services and facilities.
The resort has direct access to 60km of downhill piste. Praz sur Arly is connected to the the Notre Dame de Bellecombe and Crêt du Midi by the Flumet pistes (direct access via the Rosière or Bernards lifts). The cross-country pistes are linked to Megève through free access. The latest improvement in the ski-area of Praz sur Arly is the chairlift Ban Rouge, which has added an extra dimension to the ski area. The opening of this new territory make it possible for a huge off-piste area with extrodinary views of Mont Blanc and the valleys.
Four airports are within only two hours drive, so ski weekends and snowboard breaks and to Praz sur Arly are perfectly practicable. Chambery Airport and Geneva Airport are just one hour drive away, in good driving conditions, so you can be on the piste quickly.
Winter in Praz sur Arly offers plenty of skiing possibilities in magnificent mountain scenery. You can ski and snowboard in protected environment through the mountain. The ski in the resort includes 35 km of slopes (26 slopes) at altitude from 1000 to 2000m. The green slopes are 4; the blue 11, the red 10 and only one is black. Artificial snow ensures good conditions on the beginners’ slopes.
The negatives of the village are: the terrain is not very suitable for expert skiers and the nightlife is missing. If you want to enjoy yourself in the night you have to go to Megève. Only 3 km away, Megeve is the highlight of the region, has every facility you could whish for: shops, sportsclubs, casinos, outside skatingrink pool, fitnissclub, bowlinghall, restaurants, nightclubs, jazz club.
Each year, in January, Praz sur Arly is host of the 'International Hot Air Balloon Festival' when welcomes over 30 hot air balloonists for a fascinating airshow above the Mont Blanc.
