Situated in the Portes du Soleil region, which includes 650 km of marked pistes served in total by 240 lifts, linking 13 resorts in France and Switzerland, Morzine is one very popular resort. It lies right below the famous Avoriaz. The scenery of this region is extremely different from Avoriaz, which has the highest skiing piste and an excellent snow record, to the wealthy scenic runs in Morzine, Chatel or Let Gets where you can always find quiet runs through trees even during the busiest weeks. Avoriaz usually has the best snow in the region, but its exposure of the Alps is not best for good snow at Christmas or Easter.

Morzine is situated in a wooded basin where several mountain streams confluence and it takes a vast area on both sides of the river gorge. The principal street begins from the village centre and goes to the foot of Le Pleney where most of the hotels are located. The various quarters of the town and the lift stations are connected with a road-train and free buses. Morzine's low altitude means that snow-cover in the village is not always reliable. Morzine is linked across Le Pleney (1550m) to the traditional dairy-farming village of Les Gets.

The number of the lifts is 67. The skiing is based on both sides of the ridge which runs Le Pleney to Le Ranfolly and connects to La Turche beyond the village of Les Gets and up to Nyon above Morzine. The unlimited ski area of the Portes du Soleil has slopes for all levels of snowboarding and skiing, with fantastic panoramic views. Morzine has gentle nursery slopes at Le Pleney for beginners, while intermediates have many options in the Morzine area and throughout the Portes du Soleil. Advanced skiers and snowboarders will find more than 20 black runs and endless off-piste.

Boarders can use all pistes and can find everything they need: few drag lifts, quality snow parks, endless off-piste opportunities and well kept trails for all kind of riders. Les Portes du Soleil also devotes 5-6 runs every year to boarder cross courses.

You can find an excellent English speaking French ski-school. Individual or group lessons are available for half or full day or longer, guided tours to the Portes du Soleil, or alpine trails on the glacier.
