Back in the Middle Age the village of La Clusaz first appeared around a separate Christian church. It was built in a cluse (narrow valley) in the Aravis area and that is where its name came from. Today the old traditional village of La Clusaz spreads over 5 interconnected mountain massifs in the northern French Alps, forming one of the best alpine resorts. A traditional village – one of the few outside Switzerland and Austria, La Clusaz is nestling at 1100 m at the lap of the mountain in the midst of lovely unspoiled alpine beauty. An

Situated in the center of the Massif Aravis, La Clusaz enjoys impressive amount of snowfall from December to April, despite of its altitude of only 1100 m above sea level. The resort’s highest point is 2650 m, tourists are taken there by the excellent lift system, composed by 14 chair-lifts, 2 cable-cars, 4 gondolas and 35 ski-tows. The resort area covers 5 linked mountain massifs (Balme, Aiguille, Etale, Manigod and Beauregard), thus offering the overall 132 km. of excellent terrains to skiing fans. La Clusaz’ runs are naturally meant and prepared to suit all abilities and whims of skiers – 25 green runs, 28 blue, 23 red and 7 black. Beginners, advanced or crazy professionals – all will be taught or challenged, assisted or provoked by the stunning verticals or the gentle prepared slopes here. Advanced skiers will especially enjoy La Balme with its vast off-piste opportunities, while Beauregard is particularly adapted for intermediates and learners. Little ones are also taken care of with the lovely snow park and children’s snow garden. Cross-country skiing is another best here – 70 km of varied lovely mountain trails over two of the massifs, Confins and Beauregard plateaus. Cross-country at La Clusaz was ranked “quality plus” by France ski de Fond and is a really unique experience for ardent fans as well as for eager beginners. The variety of runs favors the practice of all boarding activities, so skier or boarder you will be free to improvise and enjoy!
The resort maintains excellent conditions for ice-skating, ice-karting, snowmobiling, paragliding, and sledding. The lovely ice-rink is open at night and fully illuminated. Inspiring walks in the village surroundings – guided or not, within the refreshing charm of the intact mountain beauty are another energizing adventure for visitors.
As to entertainment and fun, La Clusaz has plenty of surprises and unforgettable moments to offer. Monthly at full moon, an open air DJ party is organized under the moonlit sky for all tourists and guests. There are 2 discos and several bars to assure you equal fun during the rest of the month, so boredom in La Clusaz is the last thing to be experienced. Though a modern and perfectly equipped resort area, La Clusaz has preserved its traditional alpine spirit of cosiness and cheer – one you could feel in the many cafes and bistros perched on the slopes.
