Meribel, often dubbed the prettiest village in the 3 Valleys, is marked by its traditional Alpine character, as well as its strict building conservation policy. Every new house here is erected in the traditional style, following rigid architectural regulations. Nestled in the core of the world's largest linked skiing area, Meribel provides access to over 100 acres of marked pistes. It offers atmospheric, privately-owned chalets and apartments, as well as a vivid après ski scene.
Les Trois Vallées -- Courchevel, Meribel and Val Thorens – was a host to the 1992 Winter Olympic Games, has over 600 kilometres of pistes serviced by highly advanced ski lift systems. A ski pass bought at the bottom of any lift in Meribel covers the entire area. From here, one can easily reach the nearby resorts of Courchevel, La Tania, Les Menuires, Val Thorens and St. Martin de Belleville. This vast skiing area is geared to all ability levels. Hiring a mountain guide or joining an off-piste ski group brings access to an incredibly vast range of black runs. What's more, Heli skiing in Italy and private groups off-piste are provided by all of the Ski Schools. For the more advanced, the Meribel Valley offers five black runs, the best being La Face (the women's Olympic downhill course in 1992) and Bartavelle at the top of Roc de Tougne.
Meribel boasts a decent après-ski scene, with plenty of clubs and bars available for having drinks, enjoying good live music or simply soaking up the atmosphere of the region. There’s also a modern bowling alley situated in the Olympic Centre and open until late at night. The Meribel Cinema also shows films in English. Visitors are always welcome to try their luck at Brides-Les-Bains, a casino open seven days a week.
