Le Corbier introduction
General Information
Le Corbier is a ski resort located in the French Alps is part of Les Sybelles with 5 other resorts, which was started in 1938 and has continually been expanded since then. It now has 15 lifts and hundreds of miles of tracks and ski runs. The bottom lift is at 1,550 meters or about 5,100 feet and the top lift takes people up to 2,600 meters or about 8,500 feet. Le Corbier ski resort is considered to be the 4th largest ski region in France. The Snow testimony is great but still there are many snow cannons for extreme situations. Cars are banned in the resort but all parts of the resort are accessible by ski.
Winter Activities
Le Corbier has over 310 km of pistes and can be skied around or using the Les Sybelles Express way. The lift of Les Sybelles carries skiers from the resort center to the 2265 m high Mont Corbier and 2620 m high Mont Ouillon. With hundreds of miles of runs, there is skiing for all levels of experience. There are two snow parks for snowboarders of all levels of experience. Besides catering to downhill skiers, there are 28 km trails for cross-country skiers and back country skiers and snowshoe-hiking. Other facilities present are Slalom course, Parapenting, Snowshoe walks, Outdoor skating rink (which depends upon the weather). The trails also accommodate winter walking. There is a heated outdoor swimming pool in addition to Jacuzzis, spas, and saunas.
Summer Activities
Mountain biking and hiking are popular during the summer months, so also horseback-riding. Rock climbing and mountaineering are other activities along with Nordic walking and paragliding. In addition, there are bus tours of the area. There is also an archery range. Dog sledding is also available during the summer at Le Corbier. And Le Corbier has mountain boarding which is a combination of snowboarding, skateboarding and mountain biking. Instructors are available for those who are interested. There is a spa that offers everything from manicures to massages.
Other Information
There was a celebration at the pool to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the annexation of Savoy to France in 2010. There is a bowling center, disco, and cinema in Le Corbier. There are many restaurants, bed and breakfasts, hotels, campgrounds, and vacation rentals for the overnight stays. There are banks, gas stations, and a variety of other stores and Le Corbier has wireless internet connections. The shopping arcade at the resort is covered and links the buildings. There are winter long events including the French Family Skiing Championship in March and Mardi Gras is celebrated in February.
