Meribel introduction
For many skiers Méribel is the prettiest resort in Three Valleys. Its central location and the wooden chalet look of the buildings attract lots of skiers. Even the village center that was built for the 1992 Winter Olympic Games looks like a giant chalet. Americans also prefer Méribel. The Méribel valley is the central one of the Three Valleys. In Méribel there are 2 main ski resorts: Méribel (1400m) and Méribel-Mottaret which is located at 1700m. More recently a third resort is springing up: Méribel Villages which is located on the road to La Tania and Courchevel. There is a free shuttle bus linking Méribel and Mottaret up, which stops close to all accommodations.
Méribel is really beautiful and sunny, with plenty of easy skiing, great shopping and après ski. The village has 49 ski lifts; 89 well groomed runs that form 150 km. Very popular is the Olympic women's slope. In Méribel there are: 22 Green runs, 35 Blue, 22 Red and 10 Black. There are endless off-piste opportunities. The interconnected resorts share 600 km of slopes and 198 lifts. Beginners can go the nursery slopes below the Altiport and the Trout run that connects Mottaret to Méribel and is an easy green run.
If you have experienced the skiing in Méribel you will know that this is a great ski resort and the Three Valleys is the largest and finest linked ski area in the world. Three Valleys is naturally blessed with good snow cover, 1200 snow cannons. Skiing in Méribel is virtually assured from Christmas time to the beginning of May.
The gondola Mont Vallon will take you to two fantastic long descents. All the resorts in the Méribel valley are ideal starting points for trips to the other two of the three valleys, as it enjoys an ideal position in the heart of this famous and beautiful ski area. For freestyle skiers there is a choice of 2 great terrain parks. Choose from the terrain park Plattières Park in Mottaret and Moon Park in Méribel. There are a number of kickers, two hal-pipes and a boardercross course in each park. Boarders of all standards will find endless on and off-piste slopes to enjoy.
35,000 beds in 25 hotels, tourist residences, fully catered chalets, vacation centers, a mobile home park, and many self-catering apartments run by private owners and estate agencies are the accommodation options. Child care services are available for the ages to 5 years. Ski schools offer classes for ages 5 years to adults.
