There are plenty of good restaurants, things to do all year and it's just over an hour from Geneva airport. Chamonix is the oldest ski resort in France, and is really a big village of 10,000 people where the tradition of skiing combines with the diversities a town like this can give.

The Le Brevent cable car starts just above the town and rises to 8,000 foot. The areas of Les Houches, Le Tour and La Flegere are where beginners and intermediates will find many slopes to ski. The sunny slopes at the Les Pelerins, Le Savoy and Les Planards provide suitable slopes for beginners or children.

Les Grands Montets is the most popular ski area with the intermediates and more advanced skiers. Strong intermediates will want to accept the challenge of the reached by a two-stage cable car Aiguille du Midi. This is a 7,000 foot descent along the glacier of Vallee Blanche. Les Houches and Le Tour provide vast leisurely intermediate runs and more challenging runs at La Flégère and Le Brévent.
